Nicolette

“My intention in making music (apart from the pure, pure unadulterated joy of expressing myself) is to change people’s lives by helping them fall in love with themselves, or if they already are in love with themselves, to make them fall in love with themselves even more deeply.” - Nicolette

Meet Nicolette: the singer, songwriter, producer, DJ, and label owner who’s been having a blast in the music world for years. Born in Scotland to Nigerian parents, Nicolette’s journey has taken her to some incredible places and paired her with some of the most talented musicians out there, including Shut Up and Dance, Massive Attack, Alec Empire, and Plaid. And many more!

Her musical story kicked off in 1990 when she teamed up with Shut Up and Dance for her first single, ‘School of the World/Single Minded People,’ which became a hit and cemented her position as an electronic dance music innovator. That success paved the way for more dancefloor anthems and her groundbreaking debut album, Now Is Early, in 1992. Shortly after, Massive Attack invited her to contribute vocals and co-write on two tracks, ‘Sly’ and ‘Three’, for their iconic Protection album.

From there, Nicolette signed with Gilles Peterson’s Talkin’ Loud label, where she released the iconic single ‘No Government’, followed by her second album, Let No-one Live Rent Free in Your Head. Along the way, she worked with incredible artists like Plaid, dropped a DJ mix album (Nicolette DJ Kicks), and began touring the globe as a DJ.

Eventually, Nicolette took a bold step and launched her own label, Early Records, where she has dropped many singles (including her current one Circus), two EPs, her third album (Life Loves Us.) and many music videos and remixes Fast forward to today, and she’s about to release her fourth album, THE INFINITIVE — a mesmerizing blend of global influences and her signature style, with musicians from all corners of the world contributing their unique sparkling ingredients to the magical brew.

Nicolette’s stunning voice, described as “Billie Holiday on acid,” remains the heart and soul of her eclectic sound—a vibrant mix of whimsical electronic energy, playful melodies, diverse influences and a whole lot of LOVEISALL. And the best part? The musical adventure continues exciting, ever-expanding and ever deeper.
